James Gunn released CREATURE COMMANDOS before taking over DC
It follows a group of military superhumans consisting of a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, a Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon. Gunn then greenlit the project when he became CEO of DC Studios. Writer and series creator James Gunn appears in the opening credits with a laptop on which he is writing a script.

. AniMat in The Madden Movie: The Return of the King (of the Hill) (2023). After three episodes, I think it’s a lot of fun – the soundtrack is fantastic, setting the tone of each scene perfectly, and the dialogue is sharp and engaging, and the characters feel distinctive and well-written.
The plot, while not groundbreaking, draws you in
The animation quality is excellent, with sharp visuals and smooth movements that bring the story to life. However, the unnecessary sex and over-the-top hype feel overdone and detract from the overall experience. I don’t know if it’s going to be a hit with the public, but it doesn’t add any value to the story.
So far so good
Nevertheless, it’s still a hugely enjoyable show with a strong pace, likable characters, and plenty of heartwarming moments that keep me hooked. I’d give it an 8/10 for now because it’s almost perfect, but it’s let down by these unnecessary elements. If it continues to focus on its strengths — great storytelling, visuals, and characters — it could easily become one of my favorite DC animated series.
