Story
A woman, an Afghanistan veteran embroiled in a mysterious relationship with her dead army best friend, meets her Vietnam vet grandfather at the family’s lake house. Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris previously starred together in Gone Baby Gone (2007).. One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. It’s a story about coping with the loss of loved ones – past or future – which of course is the subject of many movies if you think about it. The way it’s done in MDFZ is surprising and what actually happened stays in the middle for almost the entire duration. This is much more than a movie about American veterans, which might be an initial distraction for non-US viewers. It made me think about a lot of things going on in my personal life and really gave me a piece of mind. I sincerely hope that this move also gets a proper European distribution. The reception it received here at the Dutch Film Festival seems promising.
