Helen begins a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is
Caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to London’s dangerous underworld, Helen’s employer calls in Sam to protect her. Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam buys his guns, is played by Rat Scabies, a member of the classic punk band The Damned.
Appears in Graham Norton’s The Gossips: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jaylen Ngonda (2024)
There’s a lot to like about Black Pigeons once you get past the fact that it’s unlikely! Keira Knightley plays the wife of the UK’s defence minister, but who is actually a trained assassin working for a shadowy organisation (yes, yes, she would never pass the background checks, I know!).
The plot introduces some of his co-stars, which include a mixed bag of characters, but are actually very funny, with a nod to Guy Ritchie
There is a major element of homosexuality with co-star Ben Whishaw playing a gay man trained to be an assassin by his father, who was one himself. This allowed Wishaw to play a rather nuanced and tortured role in a rather sympathetic way, but it reminds me of why my wife and I came to appreciate Korean and Japanese dramas where there is no overt sex depicted.
The plot moves along at a good pace and there are some lovely caricatures in the mix of assassins in Black Pigeons
The plot involves gang warfare, the CIA and an international incident that threatens a major dispute between China, the UK and the US. Overall, although it is indeed quite over the top, it is an enjoyable watch and Knightley does a believable job as a rather scary girl, quite believable in her role.
Definitely worth a watch!
