A grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he’s thinking
He ignores his qualifications and ethics, and finds himself making a huge difference in people’s lives – including his own. In “Shrinking,” they share their characters’ most defining moments from Season 1 and reveal who had the best impression of Harrison Ford. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Siegel said that Goldstein was originally a “Harrison Ford type” and listened to people like Ford.

Segel told Goldstein that they should take it to Ford first because he thought he would immediately reject it, but at least others would hear that Harrison Ford had brought the project, which sparked interest from other major actors. Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince her, but he was hooked nonetheless…
Pure and simple entertainment
Clearly written, great writing, enough pathos to keep it from becoming a mediocre Big Bang Theory, a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act like that, but anyone with a functioning brain knows that criticism in this regard is just negative for the sake of downgrading. Are some of the characters stereotypes?
Finally, who knew Harrison Ford was such a good light-hearted comedy actor?
Yes, but no offense, and it shouldn’t be tolerated, FYI, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly the stereotype presented here. The real success here is mixing the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of life at different ages, stages, and lifestyles, and making it damn funny. Full disclosure, and the series is worth watching for that reason alone.
